IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING 2025 PROPERTY TAX REFUND CHECKS
• Refund checks were issued only to the property owner of record as of January 1, 2025. Checks were not issued to mortgage or escrow companies.
• This was the only method available to issue refund checks.
• The decision to issue refund checks rather than apply credits toward future property taxes was made by the Lee County Board of Commissioners. Questions regarding that decision should be directed to your County Commissioner.
If Your 2025 Taxes Were Paid Through an Escrow Account
• The Tax Assessor’s Office can provide you with a letter to send to your mortgage company confirming that the overpayment resulted from their error.
• Because the refund check was issued in your name, you are responsible for forwarding the refunded amount to your mortgage company so it can be credited back to your escrow account in accordance with your mortgage servicer’s procedures.
