REGISTRATION

You have 30 days from the date you move to this state to register your motor vehicle, tractor, motorcycle or trailer and get a Georgia license plate. New residents to Georgia must have the following documents in order to register a vehicle:

Vehicle With No Lien

1. Out of State Title
2. Proof of Georgia Insurance Binder
3. Georgia Drivers License Reflecting Lee County Address
4. Current Mileage
5. Color of Vehicle
6. Original Purchase Date
7. If Vehicle Has Two Owners Both Owners Need to be Present

Vehicle With Lien

1. Lien Holder Name, Address and 12 digit Lien Holder Code for Georgia
2. Current Registration from Previous State or Copy of Title from Lien Holder
3. Proof of Georgia Insurance Binder
4. Georgia Drivers License Reflecting Lee County Address
5. Current Mileage
6. Color of Vehicle
7. Original Purchase Date
8. If Vehicle Has Two Owners Both Owners Need to be Present
9. Is This a Leased Vehicle? If yes – Need Lease Agreement and POA from Lessor

Fees

• Tag Fee for passenger vehicles and trucks weighing up to 14,000 loaded $20.00
• Title Transfer Fee $18.00
• Title Late Penalty $10.00
• Trailer Tag Fee $12.00*
• Replacement Tag, Decal, or Title $8.00

*Trailers with a gross vehicle weight of less than 2,000 pounds are not required to be titled in Georgia. The previous registration is required.

Trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 14,000 (Truck and load) fees are based on the weight. Certain persons may be eligible for a handicap tag or parking placard.

Vehicle Tag Renewals

You can complete the renewal notice received in the mail and return it to the Lee County Tax Commissioners Office via mail, or by bringing the renewal notice to the office. Vehicle Tag Renewals can also be processed online. Renewals must be made on or before the birth date of the primary owner when owned by an individual, or the last day of the month for a business.

RENEW EARLY — DON’T WAIT!!! Late fees are $5 tag penalty and 10% ad valorem tax penalty if tax is due. These penalties begin immediately following the due date.
